Roman Empire- Weaponry
How did Romans Weapons affect their Battle Strategies?
The Romans were an extremely interesting civilization. Brutal, proud, and seemingly pitiless, the Romans managed to conquer 1/5 of the world's population. Our very city structure today is based on their system of building high large buildings that housed up to thirty people. They made such advanced structures that even today many of them remain standing. The Romans had a precise aqua duct system that took engineers many years to perfect. The sewage system brought around five tons of sewage out of the city daily. All this is remarkable, how they engineered, conquered, and made their empire, but the most interesting- were the weapons.
The Romans were, at one time, the greatest civilization in the world. Why was this? It was because of their military. The Roman military received approximately 50% of the taxes. They made weapons of natural metals such as silver, steel, and bronze. After they conquered England (Albion at the time), they used it's rich natural resources to create many weapons. One of the resources was silver, which became one of their main weapon ingredients.
The citizens of Ancient Rome weren't as violent as you might think, but their main source of entertainment was watching men fight animals and people. The types of weapons they used influenced this because the longer the fight went on, the bloodier and gorier it got, the longer the audience would stay entertained. although sometimes there were unrest's and riots at the games, they mostly were harmless, except of course, to the contestants.
The Roman's weapons influenced their culture tremendously, but it affected them most in their military tactics. It they hadn't had the weapons that they had, they wouldn't have conquered the amount of area they ahad conquered aand our world wouldn't be the way it is today.
Ancient Rome thrived in a dangerous yet alluring time. Almost everything about this civilization is fascinating, to learn more about this captivating society Continue Reading.
