The Romans were a fascinating people, based on the evidence the remains of their society have left archaeologists believe they were an extremely violent people. It seems they reveled bestiality. They threw people in arenas and watched them fight until at least one man was severely injured- or dead. The public enjoyed these shows and came to watch them frequently. When someone came along with a new idea, the Roman's jumped at the chance. This idea was particularly gory and brutal, so of course it upped the viewings. This
particular idea was to throw a dangerous exotic animal into the arena and watch
it fight a man. These fights often ended with both of the participants dead from
injury, but it helped with popularity so no one paid much attention.
This was a way to keep citizens in line as well as to appease them. Though some
men wanted to be a gladiator because of the glory and riches you get if you win,
most of the others (as I may have already mentioned) were slaves and prisoners
of war. Although I am sure many men bragged about being able to fight better
than the poor men in the arena, it was a very dangerous place to be.

military tactics...
Romans are crazy, psychotic people that watch others kill one of another for
fun.(Kind of like the hunger games.) But even if they were physco, they were very
orgainized people. They always had a plan. The one they used in general was; a
political policy, grand strategy, operational strategy, then tactics, and last
but not least engagement.

This would be the way the camp would be set up for a army. It was one way to keep it organized. When in the army, you could never be too organized. To fight, it would be easy knowing how your camp was set up and if you got attacked you would know, how it would be organized if a war broke out while htey were sleeping or resting.
